Sarphatistraat 53 te Amsterdam in verbouwing
The Theatre Museum has closed its doors in the premises beside the Herengracht as of 1 January 2009. From now on the museum will tour the country with its unique collection of theatre materials and temporary exhibitions in collaboration with museums, theatres and cultural institutions. In April 2009, the TIN offices and multimedia documentation centre have moved to Sarphatistraat 53 in Amsterdam.
The Theatre Institute – of which the Theatre Museum formed a part – hopes in this way to introduce more people to Dutch theatre of the past, present and future.
Sold
The institute premises Herengracht 166, 168 and 174, where the institute offices, the Theatre Museum, the multimedia documentation centre and other facilities are located, were sold in January 2008 to a private investment company. Of course, the new owner is obliged to respect the status of the premises as historic buildings. The Bartolotti House at numbers 170-172 was not a part of the sale because it did not belong to the TIN and has been leased for years to the Hendrick de Keyser Association.
Sarphatistraat 47-55
With the revenue from the sale, the Netherlands Theatre Institute hopes to eventually create a new and contemporary performing arts museum in Amsterdam together with the Netherlands Music Centre. The TIN offices and the multimedia documentation centre, which will remain open to the public, have moved to Sarphatistraat 53 in Amsterdam in April 2009.
